A Tarkwa circuit court has granted bail in the sum of 6,000 Ghana cedis to Benjamin Odei Tetey, 27, who works at Dream Works Consult, a travel and tour company based at Takoradi, for defrauding two friends by false pretence. He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on January 4.
Prosecuting Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that the complainants are Jennifer Tetteh, a trader, and Beatrice Adobea, a teacher, while Tetey is the first accused and John Mocker Dadson, a manager of the company, the second accused.
He said in October last year, Beatrice Adobea’s father, Kofi Sakyi, attended a meeting at Tarkwa where an announcement was made by Odei’s father that his son was an agent to the second accused who was recruiting interested Ghanaians to work in Dubai.
Detective Amponsah said the complainants met the first accused at Tarkwa where they were made to buy application forms of 70 Ghana cedis and processing fee of 300 cedis each.
The first accused later gave the company’s account number to the complainants and 5,500 cedis was paid to the second accused.
He said Odei collected the complainants’ passports to secure them visa but failed to send them to Dubai as promised.
He said efforts to retrieve their money and passports proved futile. The prosecutor said on November 23 a report was made to the police and the first accused was arrested but the where about of the second accused is not known.
