Accra, Aug. 4, GNA – Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Multichoice Ghana, Plan International and Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) on Wednesday, presented cheques totaling GH¢10,000 towards the forthcoming 2009 Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.
Each institution donated GH¢2,500 and Zoomlion’s package is for the Best Environmental Reporter, ADB sponsors the Best Television News Reporting, Plan International, the Best Journalist Reporting on Violence against children.
Mr Ransford Tetteh, GJA President said the 15th GJA Awards ceremony scheduled for the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra on August 21, would honour 40 awardees and thanked all sponsors for their immense support.
Ms Isabella Gyawu Orhin, Communications Manager of Zoomlion Ghana, said as leading experts in ensuring environmental sanitation and quality health of Ghanaians, it considered the GJA as a strong partner in efforts to achieve its vision and had been supporting the GJA programmes since 2008.
She pledged the management’s continuous support for GJA to help encourage as well as motivate journalists to enhance and expand their reportage on the environment.
Ms Ann Sackey, Public Relations Officer of Multichoice Ghana, said the company’s support towards GJA’s programmes and activities had been long overdue, and the decision to support the 2009 GJA Awards was to ensure the promotion of expanded education to all children in the country.
She said Multichoice envisioned a world where no child was deprived of formal education and had developed an educational resource centre where research and reading materials could be obtained for the enhancement of both teaching and learning in line with the normal school curriculum.
Ms Sackey affirmed the management’s commitment towards supporting GJA’s programmes and activities.
Mr William Agyekum Acquah, Country Director of Plan International, and Mr Adam Sulley, Executive Head, Retail Banking, ADB, who represented their institutions, called for the development of expanded and quality reportage on children’s rights as well as promotion of the agricultural sector in Ghana.
