Four in prison custody for stealing fertilizer

Takoradi, March 8, GNA – A Takoradi Circuit Court On Tuesday remanded Augustine Ackon, Emmanuel Quayson, Nicholas Anuga and Samuel Ablordeppey in prison custody for stealing 31 maxi bags of fertilizer. They were charged with conspiracy, abetment and stealing and are to re-appear March 18, 2011.

Chief Inspector Alice Parker-Wilson told the court presided over by Mr. Kwasi Boakye that the complainant, is an area manger of the company where the third and fourth accused are security officers. She said on January 9, the first and second accused, a mason and tailor respectively, were recruited by one Nii, now at large, to carry some bags of ammonium nitrate fertilizer at the company’s yard for a fee.

Whilst the two were carrying the goods out of the yard, the first and second accused, contracted to guard the yard, were seen conversing with the fourth and third accused.

She said at about 1400 hours the same day, a woman got to the premises and accosted the security officers for providing cover for the first and second accused to steal the goods they were supposed to guard.

They took to their heels but were arrested and handed over to the poli= ce. She said a stock was then taken at the store which revealed that 31 maxi bags of the product were missing.
