Fijai (W/R), July 4, GNA – Four dismissed final year students of the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) will not write the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSCE). Mr Thomas K. Mensah, headmaster of the school told newsmen that the affected students (names withheld) were dismissed after leading a riotous demonstration and demanding the transfer or dismissal of the headmaster for financial impropriety.
He said he hoped, however, that the students would excel in spite of the long strike action by some members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).
Mr James Hamilton Rhule, Headmaster of the Fijai Secondary School said the ongoing examinations should be without incidents of leakages and cancellations.
He said any such feature could seriously destroy the educational prospects of the students.
Mr Rhule said these before the oral English examinations began at Fijai on Monday.
He told the students that any mishap would have a negative effect on them and that they should work hard and avoid leaked question papers. Mr Rhule said a surveillance team had been formed by the school to arrest anyone who poses as having exams questions for sale while students were properly searched to ensure that they did not carry “foreign materials into the examinations hall”.
At the Sekondi College, 315 students wrote the exam and there were high hopes among the students.
Some of the students expressed the hope that their schools would top the SSCE league table this year.
A number of students of the Saint John’s Secondary School at Takoradi complained that the latter part of the Oral Examination audiotape was not audible but they managed to write their exams. 4 July 05
