FORUM FOR ACHIMOTA MARKET WOMEN

A public Education Forum has been organised by the Accra Metropolitan Office of the NCI for women’s groups at the Achimota Market in Accra. Speaking on the topic “Individual Rights Freedoms and Obligations under the 1992 Constitution”, a Public Education Officer at the Accra Metropolitan Office of the NCCE, Mr.. Samuel Akuamoah, said though the constitution guarantees freedom of association, it does not endorse anti-social and other unlawful activities such as smuggling and stealing. Mr.. Akuamoah stressed the need for women to respect one another’s rights and freedoms and refrain from such acts. The Women’s Leader at the Market, Madam Grace Okai, expressed concern about the low patronage of the market by the traders. She regretted that out of the 360 sheds allocated to women, only about 95 are being occupied. Madam Okai therefore appealed to the traders who have abandoned their sheds to hawk in the Central Business District of Accra to return since sales at the Market will improve when the markets are fully occupied.
