Former MP makes Wrong Move

The former Member of Parliament for Amenfi West, Abraham Kofi Asante is reportedly seeking a seat in the ECOWAS Parliament despite resigning his seat in the Ghanaian Parliament. NDC Communications Director, John Mahama told JOY FM that a Parliamentary delegation from Ghana to the ECOWAS Parliament met the former MP in Abuja holding himself out as a representative from Ghana.

He explained that Ghana has eight representatives at the ECOWAS Parliament – four each from the Majority and Minority sides. ?One of the major criteria for being a member of the ECOWAS Parliament is that you must be a member of the Parliament in your country ? so his position in the ECOWAS Parliament has been taken away by his resignation?, Mr. Mahama added.

Mr. Kofi Asante allegedly told Ghana?s representatives to the ECOWAS Parliament who questioned him that he decided to attend the sitting in Abuja since nobody had been nominated to replace him. But Mr Mahama says another MP, S.T. Adamu has already been nominated to replace Mr Kofi Asante in the ECOWAS Parliament.

The matter was expected to be brought to Parliament?s attention for discussion on Tuesday.
