Forestry customer service centre launched at Wa

Wa, May 1, GNA – Mr Godfrey Bayon Tangu, Wa Municipal Chief Executive, on Friday launched a Customer Services Centre for the Forestry Commission at Wa with a call on officials of the Forestry Services Division to educate the public on their new approach to service delivery.

He advised officials who would man the centres to be respectful, tactful and patient to enable them work effectively.

The centres are to co-ordinate, facilitate and monitor service delivery and also ensure that services provided by the commission meets acceptable standards as outlined in the Forestry Services Charter. Mr Tangu said the Wa District had shown great interest in afforestation and has therefore procured 3,500 mango seedlings for a number of communities and schools for planting.

Mr Tangu said the centre could make its impact felt in the prevention of setting bushfires, which according to him had become the principal cause of depletion of forests in the country. Mr Agyemang-Prempeh Koranteng, Corporate Manager for Customer Services Centres, said the centre was among 21 others set up to pilot the programme through out the country.

He said the centres would receive complaints from customers, liaise with district assemblies for quality service delivery as well as being extension outlets for educating the public about the policies and programmes of the forestry and wildlife sectors. Naa Poure Puobe Chiir, Paramount Chief of the Nandom Traditional Area, called on opinion leaders and environment related agencies to educate the people especially women to desist from cutting shea trees for the production of charcoal.
