Footballer drowns at Aflao

Cornelius Amuzu, said to be a footballer in Aflao, got drowned last Sunday shortly after training at Acasia Beach at Aflao.

Mr Emmanuel Odonkor, Aflao District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased was resident at Avoeme, a suburb of Aflao.

He said Amuzu who went swimming at about 0830 hours was caught up by a rip (cross currents) which dragged him further into the sea as he struggled desperately to save himself.

Mr Odonkor said some fishermen tried to save him without success.

Amuzu’s body was later washed ashore at nearby Atorku-kope.

Mr Odonkor said Amuzu’s body had been deposited at the Keta Municipal Hospital pending autopsy while investigations continued.
