Sekondi, Oct. 02, GNA – The Environmental Health Department of Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) last weekend organised a medical screening exercise for food vendors at Effiakuma. Mr Mike Mensah, an Environmental Health Officer, told Ghana News Agency that 133 food vendors were screened for communicable diseases. He said four of them were found to be infected with typhoid fever and would not be allowed to operate until they were re-examined within two weeks after treatment.

Mr Mensah said those in good health would be issued with medical fitness cards.

He explained that the exercise formed part of the department’s three-month medical screening programme for food vendors. Mr Mensah said the exercise would be extended to other food vendors at Zenith Hotel, Accra Lorry Station, Kwesimintsim Lorry Park in Takoradi and other areas within the metropolis. 02 Oct. 07
