Flag-raising ceremony held at Hohoe

Hohoe, Feb. 15, GNA- A Flag-raising ceremony dubbed “Rally Round the Flag” was held at the forecourt of the Hohoe District Assembly to herald the official countdown to Ghana’s 50th Independence Anniversary. Addressing children from schools in the Hohoe Education Directorate, Mr John Peter Amewu, District Chief Executive, said the occasion was unprecedented in the annals of Ghana’s history saying, “Without the national flag, there is no Ghana”.

He said the flag epitomized national identity, unity, cohesion and guaranteed the sovereignty of the State.

Mr Amewu, therefore, entreated the school children to draw inspiration from the colours of the flag and commended Mrs Theodosia Oko for designing the national insignia.

He said red depicted the toil and blood of the forefathers and founders of the State, yellow symbolised the mineral resources of the land, green stood for the vast vegetation and prosperity with the Black Star representing the Hope of Africa or the Black race.

Mr Prosper Sracoo, Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development, said the national flag was the nerve center of the State and all should identify with the banner. He educated the school children on the efficacy of the de-worming tablet, and explained that the ongoing de-worming exercise in the District, was part of a national exercise sanctioned by the World Health Organization for developing countries.
