Five suspects arrested over car thefts

Five people suspected to be involved in series of car thefts in the Kumasi Metropolis have been arrested and are being held by the Tafo Divisional Police.

Evans Appiah, Eric Aidoo, Andrews Wireko, Kwame Ofori and Yaw Addae, were seized at different locations and believed to belong to separate criminal gangs.

Superintendent of Police Charles Domanban, the Divisional Commander, told a press briefing that their arrest followed useful leads provided by some members of the public.

He said the suspects had all confessed to snatching the cars (taxis) from their owners at different times.

They would engage the services of the drivers to take them to some points in the metropolis and midway through the journey, draw knives and other offensive weapons, and forcibly take away the cars.

Supt Domandan said they had already appeared before court and been remanded into police custody to aid further investigations.
