Five deaths recorded on N1 motorway

ive people have reportedly lost their lives since the NI Motorway was commissioned last Friday.

The latest incident happened Monday night when a vehicle ran over a man, killing him on the spot.

The accidents have been attributed to indiscipline by motorists, especially, commercial drivers who ply that route.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has therefore warned it will deal ruthlessly with drivers who do not comply with designated bus stops on the N1 Motorway.

The Assembly is greatly disturbed that motorists are dropping off passengers and picking commuters at unapproved spots on the newly constructed highway.

A statement signed by Public Relation Officer of the AMA Numo Blafo III hinted a combined team of officers from the police MTTU and Metro Guards will now patrol the N1 highway to prevent further deaths on that road.

It said: “Any road user who flouts any of the regulations would be arrested and prosecuted whilst the vehicle would be towed”.

The assembly is also cautioning pedestrians who cross the road at unapproved areas and hawkers who take advantage of traffic lights to trade along the corridors to desist from such practice, adding they would be arrested and punished.
