Fishermen advised against using unapproved methods

The Gomoa West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has appealed to fishermen to stop the use of dynamite and other illegal fishing methods to avoid depletion of fish.

He said use of dynamite and other illegal fishing methods had contributed to dwindling fish catches.

The DCE was addressing the Apam Number Two Dentsefo Asafo Company during a durbar marking part of their Annual Akwambo festival at Apam.

He said efforts were being made to release to them all their fishing gear seized by the Military recently and warned that such type of the inputs should not be used again.

Mr. Aidoo-Mensah said the government was importing new fishing inputs to assist them to enhance their operations.

He said a task force had been set up at Apam beache to screen fishermen arriving by sea from Liberia and Guinea to detect those with the infectious disease, the Ebola.

The Queen mother of Apam, Nana Essel Botwe III, spoke against young men raping, defiling and impregnating girls less than 18 years and said parents of culprits would be sanctioned.
