Fire volunteers warn farmers and palmwine tappers

Nkawie (Ash), Jan 15, GNA- Mr Michael Manu, Chairman of the Atwima District Fire Volunteers, has cautioned farmers, palm wine tapers, smokers and other fire users to be extra careful in the use of naked fire during the harmattan season.

He said nearly 90 percent of bush fires were caused by those mentioned and asked fire volunteers to monitor their movements closely. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Nkawie, Mr Manu said last year, the district recorded few fire outbreaks.

He attributed this to the proper monitoring and education by the volunteers and said they would step up their monitoring and education to record even fewer bush fires this season.
