Fire guts palm oil producing centre

FIRE on Wednesday engulfed a palm oil producing shed belonging to Opanyin Kwasi Acquah at Akobima in the Central Region, destroying property worth over ?20 million.

Some of the items destroyed include barrels of oil, foodstuffs and cooking utensils.

Briefing the Graphic, Opanyin Acquah said at around 2.30 am, he smelt smoke, heard rustling outside his house, and woke up only to find the roof of the shed burning.

Opanyin Acquah said he shouted for help and it took the local fire volunteers and Fire Service personnel about three hours to quench the fire.

He said he suspects arson and said the case has been reported to the Ayeldu Police for investigations.
