Fire Guts British Council Library

Accra

The British Council Library has been closed to the public until Monday, April 21, due to a fire outbreak this morning. Mr Collins Stevenson, director of the library, told the Ghana News Agency that the fire was caused by an electrical fault from one of the ceiling lights. It blew up and fell on the floor emitting soot which covered books, the floor and other machines. He said though the damage was minimal, the inconvenience was great, because it will take a long time to clean up the place for work to start. Mr Stevenson said, “I was very much impressed by the prompt response of the National Fire Service though by the time they arrived the fire had already been put out”.
