Fire displaces 20 at Mpem

Nkoranza (B/A), March 23, GNA – Four thatched houses belonging to some settler farmers at Mpem, a farming community in the Nkoranza District were destroyed by bushfire on Tuesday. The fire affected about 20 persons from four separate families. Personal effects including clothing, cooking utensils, beddings and quantities of foodstuffs like maize, millet and groundnuts were also destroyed in the fire.

Mr Peter Baffoe-Bediako, Assembly Member for the area told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that the people suspected a running fire from a maize barn in the area might have caused the disaster. He appealed to the district secretariat of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Nkoranza District Assembly, religious bodies and public-spirited individuals to come to the aid of the affected persons.
