Fire destroys cashew plantation

Abotareye, (B/A), Jan.29, Gna – One hundred acres of Cashew Plantation at Abotereye near Subinsu in the Wenchi District belonging to the former District Chief Executive for Wenchi, Mr. Diwes Dwomo Domfieh, was completely raised down by fire on Friday.

Mr. Domfieh, who conducted the Ghana News Agency round to inspect damage to property said the cause of the fire was the second time in two-years when on the first occasion fire destroyed 40-acres of the same cashew farm in the area.

Mr. Domfieh said the already fruited cashew plantation destroyed by the fire is estimated at over 200 million cedis after re-activating the farm.

He said, he had previously spent 10 million cedis protecting the Cashew Farm with fire belts and wondered why the fire could engulf the cashew plantation.

He has therefore, appealed to the Government, the Wenchi District Assembly, the National Disaster Management Organisation and Non-Governmental Organisation’s (NGO’s) to come to his aid to rehabilitate the destroyed cashew plantation.
