Find ways of solving chieftaincy and land disputes

Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 12, Oct. Traditional rulers and opinion leaders have been urged to help institute mechanisms to solve land and chieftaincy disputes in their areas. Mr N.A. Dodoo, a public servant, who made the appeal said there should be a uniform system for the acquisition of land for farming and settlement, adding that revenue from the transaction should benefit all interested parties. He suggested that the mechanisms should also check “indiscriminate disposal of land by family heads and their supporters”.

Mr Dodoo said a number of land and chieftaincy conflicts in the Ga district and other areas have led to the formation of “land guards” who often clash with developers resulting in loss of lives and destruction of properties. “If a uniform land acquisition mechanism is instituted land and chieftaincy disputes cases will reduce”, he said.
