Kumasi, June 17, GNA – The Ghana Muslim Students Association has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to show good faith to allow for an acceptable settlement of all sticking issues in their negotiations.
The students said the suspension of the NAGRAT strike action and the relief it had brought should provide an opportunity to address once and for all problems and demands raised by the teachers. These were contained in a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Association in Kumasi and signed by the President, Abdul-Majeed Musah.
The students said there should not be a lull in negotiations between the two parties until a deal that is agreeable to both the teachers and the GES had been clinched if the nation was to be assured that there would not be future strike action by NAGRAT. They congratulated the teachers for returning to the classroom and said it was a step in the right direction.
The students, whilst acknowledging the fact that teachers deserve better treatment, also appealed to the teachers to be moderate and considerate in their demands. The association wished all final year students of the senior secondary schools success in their impending examination.
