FDB warns importers of condoms

Accra, April 20, GNA – From June 1 this year, the importation of condoms, medical gloves, syringes and needles into the country shall be through the Tema Harbour and the Kotoka International Airport only, the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) said on Wednesday.

A statement by the Board said it had intensified its monitoring of the quality of these products on the Ghanaian market and these products shall be sampled and tested on a “batch-to-batch basis prior to release from the ports on to the market”.

The statement said the outcome of a series of analysis conducted on some syringes and needles had revealed that some of the needlepoints had featheredges and hooks.

“Additionally, some brands of condoms and medical gloves have been found not to conform to the required international standards,” the statement said.

The FDB called on all importers who had not yet registered their brands with the FDB to do so before June 1, this year. 20 April 05
