FDB destroys large consignment of unwholesome fish

The Ashanti Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has destroyed a large consignment of unwholesome fish seized from the “Adom Mbroso” Cold Store at Asafo in Kumasi.

It has also arrested a businesswoman at Apianim-Kokoben in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District.

Mrs Nora Narkie Terlabi, the Regional Officer of the Board, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, their action followed a tip off.

She said the office received information that somebody was smoking a truck-load of rotten fish at Apianim-Kokoben for sale, and when officers moved in they found 44-year-old Gladys Mbeah smoking fish that emitted foul stench.

Mrs Terlabie said, they seized the entire stock and brought the woman to the Kumasi Central Police Station where she mentioned “Adom Mbroso” as the source.

Officials of the Board and the police proceeded to the Cold Store and seized 200 unlabelled cartons of the unwholesome fish and destroyed them at the Kaase dumping site.

She pledged firm action against the culprits.

The Manager of the Cold Store, Kofi Badu, confirmed that Madam Mbeah bought the fish from them but insisted that the fish were not in bad condition when they sold them to her.**
