Father in court for defiling daughter

A 44-year-old electrician who is accused of defiling his 13-year-old daughter over the past two years appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Solomon Addae Mensah, charged with defilement, incest and assault, pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Ms. Sedina Agbemava remanded Mensah into prison custody to reappear on August 13.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adiza Suleman said the complainant was the victim’s class teacher, and the victim resides with her father (the accused person) at Kaneshie.

According to the prosecution, the accused person first abused the victim sexually when she was 11 years old and had continued.

On July 11, Mensah defiled his daughter after assaulting her and warned her not to mention it to anybody.

ASP Suleman said the victim, who could no longer bear the ordeal, informed her school authorities and later the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit at Kaneshie.

The victim was issued with a medical report for examination and treatment.

ASP Suleman said Mensah was apprehended by the Police, and during interrogation, he admitted assaulting the victim, but denied defiling her.
