Salaga (NR), March 27, GNA – The Kpembewura Alhaji Haruna, the paramount chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area on Saturday indicated that farming was a means of employment and charged the youth to stop the habit of gathering under sheds gossiping rather than going into farming to boost their living conditions and the nation’s economy.
He said there were vast virgin lands in Gonjaland, which were rich in cassava, yam and other crop production to generate income if the youth took farming seriously and that he was ready to make land available to any one who wanted to go into farming.
The Kpembewura said this when he addressed the people of the area during the 29th Annual National Congress of the Gonjaland Youth Association held in Salaga in the East Gonja District. The congress, which brought together citizens of Gonjaland resident all over the country and beyond was to review their past performance and to see how best they could contribute their quota to the development of the area.
The congress was on the theme: “Politics and Gonjaland – the role of the youth.”
The Kpembewura has, however, cautioned against the destruction of economic trees, which he said, would degrade the environment and deprive communities of consuming fruits.
He appealed to the people of Gonjaland to encourage investors to come and invest in the area and pledged his support to release land for any investor who wants investment in Kpembe land.
He advised the youth against rumour mongering, saying that the practice divides the community, which would never benefit any of them and stressed the need for collective work to develop the community. The Yagbonwura Bawa Doshie Abudu I, Paramount Chief of Gonja appealed to the government to exhibit the political will and commitment to complete the Fufulso Junction-Sawla road to boost economic activities in the region.
He said the region needed investors hence the need for the tarring of all roads linking food producing towns to promote farming.
