Farmers asked not to give up.

Accra, Oct. 6 GNA- Major Courage Quashigah (rtd), Minister of Food and Agriculture on Wednesday called on farmers not to give up the service they offer to the country.

He said the Ministry was now enticing many educated youths to go into farming therefore, there was the need for the old and experienced farmers to hold on while the youth take up from them.

Major Quashigah said this when 13 companies donated items and cash to the Ministry towards this year’s Farmers Day.

He said he has hope for the nation looking the way perceptions about farmers were changing and the youth getting enthused with the profession.

Companies who donated items included; Agrimax Limited who donated agro chemicals, Latex Foam donated 10 Latex mattresses, NODECO International donated two motorbikes, Produce Buying Company (PBC) donated sprayers and Wellington boots and Calli Ghana Limited donated agro chemicals.

Others were; Aglow Agric products Limited who donated a cheque of 30 million cedis and 50 pieces of watering cans worth 3.5 million cedis, Tropo Farms donated 50,000 juvenile fingerlings worth 40 million cedis, Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC) 50 million cedis, Fan Milk Limited 25 million cedis and BOMART Farms Limited donated five ( 5 ) million cedis and 3,000 plantlets of pineapples.

Pioneer Food Company donated 200 cottons of tuna, Cottage Italia Company Limited, 10 million cedis and Continental Commodities Trading Company (CCTC) donated 40 million cedis.

Mr. Eddy Akitah, Minister of Fishery, who received the items on behalf of the Ministry, thanked the donors and said, without their assistance, there would not be any event such as Farmers Day.
