Farmer remanded for fraud

Techiman, (B/A) March 2, GNA- Peter Anno, a 23- year old Farmer, has been remanded into prison custody by the Techiman Circuit Court for defrauding one Mr Kwadwo Ameyaw of 6.3 million cedis.

Anno pleaded not guilty to two counts of intent to fraud and defrauding by false pretences and is to reappear on March 8. His unnamed accomplice is at large.

Police Chief Inspector Sampson Y. Jebuni, told the court presided over by Mr Justice Eramus Gyinae, a High Court Judge sitting as a Circuit Court Judge that, Anno deceived the complainant that he had in his possession a parcel his nephew in Spain had sent to him.

Prosecution said the accused gave Mr Ameyaw direction to his house in Kumasi and asked him to bring along the 6.3 million cedis being the cost in delivering the parcel.

Chief Inspector Jebuni said on December 9, last year the complainant collected the so-called parcel concealed in a bag and when he opened it, he found it stocked with water sachets.

He said when Anno was arrested he promised to pay back the money but has since failed to do so.

Mr Justice Eramus Gyinae asked the accused asked to assist the Police to arrest his accomplice.
