Farmer jailed three years for possessing fire arms

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Nene Asare Sackitey, a farmer, to a three-year prison term for possessing fire arms and ammunition without authorisation.

The court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, sentenced Sackitey on his own plea of unlawfully possessing one Italian made revolver with registration number 880 and seven rounds of ammunition.

The Prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh, told the court that the police received information indicating that some men were having in their possession one A.K. 47 assault rifle and a quantity of ammunition.

He said upon intelligence surveillance, the police arrested Sackitey at his hideout at Agomenya, Odumasi Krobo, in the Eastern Region.

DSP Morkeh said after investigations the accused person was charged with the offences and arraigned before court.
