Farmer jailed for defiling three-year old granddaughter

Juaben (Ash), Jan 6, GNA – A 55-year-old farmer has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour by a circuit court at Asante-Juaben for defiling his three-year-old granddaughter.

Akwasi Appau alias “Adinkra” pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Daniel Gadzo told the court presided over by Justice Obeng Asante that both the victim and the convict live at Asuokoko, a farming community near Effiduase.

He said the mother of the little girl is the step daughter of Appau and they live in different houses.

Chief Insp. Gadzo said on last year’s “Boxing Day” at about 1500 hours the convict requested to take a picture with the victim and the unsuspecting mother obliged.

The prosecution said Appau took the girl to his room and when he brought her back, the mother noticed that the girl had been defiled.

The mother reported the case to the Domestic Violence Victims Support Unit at Effiduase and a medical report indicated that the girl was defiled.
