Farmer jailed 24 months for causing unlawful damage

Sekondi, July 9, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced Kwasi Azalu, a 54-year old farmer to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for burning the personal belongings of his wife, valued at three million cedis.

The accused pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage.

The court ordered the accused to pay the cost belongings. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor said the accused was married to the complainant, Esi Akoma, aged 44 and were resident at Adum Dorminase.

He said the accused used to subject the complainant to severe beating without any provocation.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said at about 1500 hours on June 30, this year, the accused and the complainant quarreled and as a result she decided to have the marriage dissolved.

He said at about 1230 hours on July 6, this year, while the complainant was attending a funeral, the accused entered her bedroom and burnt the personal belongings.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the matter was reported to the Police, who arrested the accused and charged him with the offence after investigations.
