Farmer convicted for causing harm

Akyem Swedru, (E/R) July 22, GNA- A nineteen-year-old farmer, Emmanuel Edzeani who inflicted wounds on another farmer with a sharp metal have been convicted to a fine of two million cedis by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court. Edzeani pleaded guilty to a charge of causing unlawful harm to Sampson Arthur, 18, and was convicted on his own plea and is to go to jail for two months if he fails to pay the fine. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector, Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court, presided over by Mr. Edward Kwame Bosopem Apenkwa, that the convict and the complainant had a misunderstanding over an issue. He said on July 5, this year, Edzeani confronted the complainant in town and this resulted in a fight between them. The prosecutor said on July 8, Arthur attended a wake-keeping in the town and about 2230 hours Edzeani emerged from the darkness with a sharp metal and inflicted multiple wounds on Arthur’s head, upper lip, forehead and the cheek and he fell down unconscious. He said the complainant was rushed to the local clinic for a first aid treatment and when he regained consciousness he was referred to the Akyem Oda Government Hospital for further treatment. A report was made to the Akyem Adjodue police who arrested Edzeani and after investigations, charged him with the offense.
