Factions in Oblogo chieftaincy dispute smoke peace pipe

Oblogo (GAR), March 2, GNA – The MP for Weija, Ms Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, has called on Chiefs and the people of Oblogo to ensure that the chieftaincy dispute that led to arson and the loss of life and property does not reoccur.

The MP made the call at the weekend when she witnessed a ceremony to reconcile factions in an eight-year old dispute at Oblogo between the Nii Oblogo Lamptey and the Nii Kwaku Bibini families. She advised traditional rulers to put an end to the indiscriminate sale of land without due consultation, which had given rise to the activities of land guards in the area. The MP said, “This historic ceremony should be the beginning of peace, unity and harmony in the area to open up the place for the rapid socio-economic development”. “It is the wish of everybody that this ceremony should heal wounds, mend broken hearts and mark the beginning of the people of the area and live in peace”.

Nii Kwaku Bibini III, Chief of Oblogo said the reconciliation, which was the result of a series of consultation with citizens and traditional rulers would last and appealed to the elders of the area to maintain discipline and avoid lawlessness. He urged people who fled the area as a result of the conflict to return to join those at home to work for the development of the area and to achieve peace, unity and harmony in the town. Nii Oblogo Lamptey also appealed to the people to avoid acts that could endanger the peace that had been achieved. Nii Gbelenfo II, Ga Wolomo advised the Chiefs to accept their mistakes and make amends to ensure durable peace and development of the area. A cow and fowls were slaughtered to signify the peace and reconciliation that had been achieved.
