Kumasi, Sept 14, GNA – The need for peaceful co-existence among the political parties was given a practical demonstration on Saturday when the executive of the Bantama constituency NDC led by the parliamentary candidate, Alhaji Alhasan Napoh, joined their NPP counterparts to undertake a five-hour clean-up exercise at Bohyen and Ampabame, all suburbs of Kumasi. The clean-up exercise was organised by the Bantama constituency NPP.
Speaking separately after the exercise, both Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah and Alhaji Napoh, NPP and NDC parliamentary candidates for the constituency, refuted rumours of animosity between them. Alhaji Napoh stressed the need for political opponents not to see themselves as enemies. “Our ideological differences should not create animosity amongst our supporters.” He appealed to NDC supporters to refrain from violence that could impact negatively on the peace the nation was enjoying. Madam Dapaah said a peaceful election depended on how politicians conducted themselves and cautioned political party leaders to explain their manifestos to the electorate and address issues when they mount platforms.
”Politicians should refrain from vilifying personalities in their campaigns. Vilification of political opponents sows seeds of discord among the supporters. Supporters should object whenever their leaders became offensive.” “We must exhibit politics of maturity so as to consolidate the country’s infant democracy”, Madam Dapaah said.
