Accra (GAR), – Samuel Kwesi Kpabitey, an ex-police constable, was today arraigned at a circuit tribunal in Accra charged with stealing a pick-up vehicle valued at 33 million cedis, the property of AFGO (Ghana) Limited. Kpabitey pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of five million cedis to re-appear on July eight. The three-man tribunal chaired by Mr. Charles Nyewolema ordered Kpabitey to deposit two million cedis out of the amount with the registrar of the tribunal. Ahmed Sulley, a spare parts dealer, who was in the dock with Kpabitey on a charge of dishonestly receiving, was also given bail after pleading not guilty. According to the prosecution, on October two, last year, the vehicle which was involved in an accident was towed to the Cantonments police station for examination by a testing officer. Kpabitey, who was then the investigating officer, stole the vehicle and sold it to Sulley at Kokompe for five million cedis. When AFGO officials could not trace the vehicle, they made a report to the police and investigations led to the arrest of Sulley who mentioned Kpabitey as the one who sold the vehicle to him.
