Ex-convict remanded for raping married woman

Aflao, Feb. 25, GNA- Kodzovi Dulemordzi, 25, an ex-convict, who got infuriated by the inability of a married woman he mugged to provide any valuables and raped her at gun-point, was last Friday remanded in custody by an Aflao Circuit court.

He was charged with rape and attempted robbery. Dulemordzi’s plea was not taken and would be brought before the court again on March 31, this year.

Miss Mary Assan, Inspector of Police told the stunned court that the ex-convict was arrested when after raping his victim at dawn on Saturday February 16, marched her towards her house to collect GH¢100, she earlier offered to give him to avoid being raped. She said while on the way, the victim saw some youth gathered at a compound and she dashed towards them screaming for help leading to Dulemordzi’s arrest.

Miss Assan told the court presided over by Group-Captain Martin Obeng-Ntim (rtd) that the accused, who claimed to be a driver’s mate, lived at Avakorme while the victim aged 33, a trader and mother of two, lived at Low Cost both suburbs of Aflao.

She said at around 0430 hours that Saturday, the victim tried seeing a recalcitrant debtor before he (the debtor) left the house, but while returning, she was attacked by Dulemordzi in a lane between Makavo Hotel and the offices of the BNI.

Miss Assan said the accused wielding a locally made pistol dragged the victim into an uncompleted building and forcibly had sex with her. She said while the victim was resisting, Dulemordzi threatened to blow up her head if she raised the alarm.

Miss Assan said it was during the protest that the victim pleaded with the accused to follow her to the house to collect the GHc100 so that he does not rape her. She said Dulemordzi after the rape wanted the money too and marched the victim towards her house, not too far from the spot of the crime. Miss Assan said Dulemordzi fired a shot and also hit his pursuers with a stone but they managed to arrest him. The pursuers found a pistol, a catapult and a used cartridge discarded by the accused around where he was arrested.
