Engineer fined two million cedis for stealing

Accra, March 4, GNA – Mr James Kwasi Zewu, a Printing Machine Mechanic, was on Wednesday fined two million cedis by an Accra Magistrate’s Court for stealing a printing machine griper valued at two million cedis.

Mrs Olivia Obeng Owusu, Presiding Magistrate, ordered that Zewu would go to jail for five months in default. Zewu pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was convicted on his own plea.

Chief Inspector Peter Bene told the court that somewhere in 2003, Zewu was working on a printing machine belonging to one David Kwablah Kudjawu and he removed the gripper from the machine and sold it to another person for 300, 000 cedis.

He said Mr Kudjawu detected the theft after some time and reported the matter to the Police. During investigations Zewu led the Police to retrieve the gripper.
