Enforce moral training and discipline – Moderator tells teachers

Kumasi, Nov 11, GNA – The Right-Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has appealed to school authorities to teach morals, discipline and religion in order to attain quality education. This is because religion and discipline were bedfellows which, when inculcated into students, would contribute to their physical and spiritual development.

Speaking at the launch of the 40th anniversary celebration of the Bompata Presbyterian Secondary School on Thursday, The Rt-Rev Dr Frimpong-Manso said it has been demonstrated that no serious academic work could be done in a school where indiscipline reigns supreme. “If you educate only the head and leave out the hearts, you only end up producing academicians without substance.”

The Moderator stressed the need for school authorities to open their doors to students to enable them acquire skills and that such extra curricular activities add up to the preparation of the youth for the challenges in life.

While regretting the upsurge of moral decadence in Presbyterian schools, the Rt Rev Dr Frimpong-Manso appealed to Presbyterians and stakeholders in the church to be resolute towards bringing back the Presbyterian discipline.

Such a move, he said, would ensure that the Presbyterian Church regains its reputation of training God-fearing and patriotic citizens who are capable of leading the country to the threshold of economic emancipation.

The Rev Prof Sarfo-Kantanka, Head of the Crop Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), said for quality education to be attained, there was the need for district assemblies to be fully committed to the development of infrastructure in the communities.
