‘Employ NPP members before others’ – Ghana’s High Commissioner to SA

Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa George Ayisi Boateng has put himself in the spotlight after claiming his allegiances first lie with supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the country at large.

Mr. Boateng believes the hard work of NPP loyalists got him his post and so it is only prudent that he puts them first when it comes to job opportunities.

Speaking to some members of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network (TESCON) – the student wing of the NPP – he said he is committed to solving problems of party members even if it means prioritizing them over the nation at large.

“The job market is choked and it is highly competitive and this government is doing its best to create job opportunities [but] me for instance I told my people that it is NPP that is why I am in power so NPP man is my priority.

“My topmost priority is the problem of an NPP person before any other Ghanaian, take it or leave it and indeed I am not boasting,” he remarked. He added that other members of the NPP in posts like his should endeavor to help party loyalists, saying “if I had my way any job opportunity will go to a TESCON member”.

Further emphasising his commitment to NPP loyalists, Mr Boateng said: “I know that my colleagues also have the same feeling except that because of IMF we cannot do anything now.

“So NPP member is my priority before any other Ghanaian, we are all Ghanaians but some are more Ghanaians than others.”

It appears the Commissioner did not know his utterances will get to the public, but is surely bound to stir controversy with his latest comments.
