Electrification Project: NPP MPs lobbying for their areas – Sorogho

Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Alhaji Amadu Sorogho, has alleged that NPP Members of Parliament have been lobbying for their constituencies to be included in the rural electrification project.

This, according to him, is irrespective of the fact that they raised concerns about the rural electrification deal in parliament.

This assertion comes on the back of allegations by the Minority in Parliament that Smartyys Management and Production, the PR firm for Chinese outfit Hunan Construction Engineering Group Corporation has inflated the contract sum by $9million for the rural electrification project.

Speaking on 3FM’s morning show Sunrise, Tuesday, Alhaji Sorogho, who is also the Chairman of the Energy Committee, explained that 556 communities are supposed to be captured in the first half of the electrification project and NPP members of parliament have been lobbying that their constituencies are included.

“Some of them [NPP MPs] came to me to lobby that we should include their communities to be hooked unto [it],” he said.

He also bemoaned how every issue is politicized in the country, saying that the NPP MPs are trying to fight the project because they are afraid the project will help the NDC win the upcoming elections.

“They [NPP MPs] came to me; Alhaji, this thing when we allow, Charley this people will vote for you.”

He, therefore, noted that instead of politicizing the issue and criticizing Smarttys Management and Production, they should rather be praised.

“I am praising them because they were able to get an investor to come all the way from China and to negotiate for this thing to come to Ghana,” he said.
