Electricity Company announces new power cut cycle.

With effect from April fools’ dayl, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is to revert to the 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness schedule.

The Minister for Mines and Energy said on radio that with the completion and commissioning of a new thermal plant in La Cote D’Ivoire, the country will be receiving 70 megawatts of energy from La Cote D’Ivoire which will be upped to about a hundred in the ensuing months.

Mr. Fred Ohene Kena noted that when the Aboadze thermal plant is repaired the ECG would be able to increase power supply to consumers. He was reacting to the issue of waiving the 5 percent import duty imposed on light duty generators.

Mr. Ohene Kena assured Ghanaians that the current situation would ease very soon.
