Electrician fined 6 million cedis for stealing

Elmina, April 25, GNA – A 20-year-old electrician from Dominase, near Komenda, was on Friday fined six million cedis by a district court at Elmina for stealing.

John Arthur pleaded not guilty and would serve two years in prison in hard labour if he fails to pay the fine.

The prosecution had told the court that in February the proprietor of a guesthouse at Dominase where Arthur’s wife was employed detected that 5,084,000.00 cedis, and a piece of wax print valued at 200,000 cedis, were missing from the guesthouse.

It said the proprietor suspected Arthur who had earlier been ejected from the premises with his wife. The wife was a caretaker at the guesthouse.

The proprietor went to the couple’s house and during a search in Arthur’s presence, the wax print and 2,084,000.00 cedis were found. Passing sentence the presiding judge, Mr Beresford Acquah, said he was lenient with the convict because he was a first offender.
