Ejisu-Juaben NDC Constituency Secretary quits party

The Ejisu-Juaben Constituency Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. R. P. K. Gyambibi, has quit the party over his unsuccessful bid for the area’s parliamentary ticket.

He lost the primary election held at Ejisu on Monday to Mr. Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi, a building contractor.

Mr. Gyambibi stunned the large gathering of party faithful, as he removed the smock in NDC colours he was wearing, threw it on the ground and quickly left the place, seething with anger.

This was after he had been invited to make a speech, conceding defeat to Nana Akwasi.

“I have accepted this honourable defeat, but I wish to publicly declare that from today, I am no longer a member of this party,” he said, to the amazement of the delegates.

Mr. Gyambibi secured 96 votes as against the 205 polled by the winner.

Nana Akwasi thanked the delegates for the mandate and pledged to work to unite the party and win the seat for the NDC.

Mr. Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah-Ponko, the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election.
