Eight DCEs sworn-in in the Upper West Region

Wa, May 26, GNA – Mr. Mohamud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to Municipal and District Chief Executives in the area to work in partnership with their technocrats in order to achieve the desired development for their areas.

This, he said, could be done through consultations and effective collaboration with the administrators and other technocrats who play meaningful roles for development.

He made this appeal on Monday after swearing-in eight out of the nine confirmed Municipal and District Chief Executives, at Wa. Mr. Yakubu Duogo, the confirmed Wa Municipal Chief Executive, who was out of the region, would, however, be sworn-in later. The eight District Chief Executives are; Seidu Tungbani- Wa West, Clement Benin- Lambussie, Bernard Kofi Puozuing- Jirapa, Samson Abu- Lawra, Robert Wavie Bakah- Sissala West, Alijata Sulemana – Sissala East, Ameen Salifu – Wa East and Abu Kasangbata- Nadowli. Mr.Khalid also advised the Chief Executives against meddling in land and chieftaincy disputes which, he said, were already creating panic and acrimony in some parts of the region.

“As Chief Executives you have a stake in amicably settling the disputes in your areas by collaborating effectively with Chiefs and other stakeholders in your Districts,” he added. The Regional Minister also appealed to them to eschew divisive tendencies that retard the progress and development of their areas. Naa Seidu, a member of the Council of State, advised the DCEs to be tolerant to all views and opinions as their societies were polarized on ethnic and partisan lines.

He also advised the people to respect their DCEs. “Heading a non-partisan society has a lot of challenges so you need to demonstrate a high level of maturity and level-headedness to achieve your goals”.

Mr. Robert Wavie Bakah, Sissala West, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues promised to exhibit a high sense of maturity and diligence in dealing with their developmental challenges in their various districts.
