Accra, Jan.31, GNA – Mr Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs would be paying a two-day official visit to Ghana from February 1 2004.
While in the country, he would pay a courtesy call on President John Agyekum Kufuor and hold talks with his Ghanaian counterpart, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on improving the level of cooperation between Ghana and Egypt in various fields, including trade, tourism, health, defence and marine operations.
A Foreign Ministry statement in Accra signed Mrs Martha Pobee, Acting Director of Information, Cultural and Linguistics Bureau, said the two Foreign Ministers would sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a mechanism for regular consultations on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest to the two countries.
During his visit, Mr Gheit and Mr Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, Ghana’s Acting Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, would sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism, the main purpose of which would be to promote tourism through the exchange of information and technical experts, training as well as the promotion of cultural tourism on reciprocal basis.
Three bilateral agreements between the two countries were signed in March 1998 at the conclusion of a meeting of a Joint Ministerial Commission of Ghana and Egypt.
The agreements covered trade, investment promotion and protection and the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation.
