Effutu Assembly supports DOVVSU with office furniture

Winneba, March 24, GNA – The Effutu Municipal Assembly has pledged its full support and co-operation to ensure the effective operation of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in the area.

Mr Solomon Kwashie Abbam Quaye, Acting Municipal Chief Executive, gave the assurance when he presented a set of furniture worth GHc341 to the Municipal Police Command for the running of the office of the DVVSU at Winneba. Mr Abbam Quaye said the donation was a response to request made by the officer of the DOVVSU to the defunct Awutu Effutu Senya District Assembly, now Effutu Municipal Assembly and the Senya District Assembly. Mr Abbam Quaye stressed the importance the document attached to the recently promulgated Domestic Violence Law and gave the assurance to make the law to achieve its objective. He said it was the cardinal responsibility of the various district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies to create ideal conditions for branches of the Domestic Violence and Support Unit throughout the country to function creditably. Mr Abbam Quaye said it was for this reason that members of the former Awutu Effutu District Assembly agreed in principle at the last joint meeting that the request for the office furniture which was put forward by the administrators of the DVVSU had been treated with dispatch.

Eunice Ida Bosompem, Assistance Superintendent of Police and Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit at Winneba, who received the gift on behalf of the District Commander Mr Jordan Quaye, express her appreciation to the Assembly for the gesture and appealed to organizations churches, institutions and philanthropists in the area to emulate the shining examples of the Assembly. ASP Bosompem assured people in both the Effutu Municipality and the Awutu/Senya District Assembly that officers running the affairs of the DOVVSU would proved equal to the task ahead of the Unit. He advised people in the two assemblies, especially married couples, to always guard against the temptation of creating situations that would promote domestic violence
