Educationist asks parents not to pamper their children

Mozano(C/R), July 17, GNA – Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Tsibu, Headmaster of Mozano Senior Secondary School in the Central region, has appealed to parents not to pamper their children but endeavour to assist the Government build a strong human resource base for the country’s socio-economic development.

He said parents who shirked their responsibilities at home should not blame teachers for the poor academic performance of their children, adding; ” upbringing of the child is a shared responsibility of parents and teachers.”

Mr Tsibu made the appeal when addressing the school’s Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) meeting at Mozano at the weekend. He condemned the attitude of parents who ignored their responsibilities at home and blamed teachers for the poor performance of their children.

“Because most of the students in secondary cycle institutions are pampered by their parents at home, authorities of the institutions find it extremely difficult to discipline such children when they misbehave,” he added.

Mr. Tsibu asked parents to visit their children regularly in school to assist school authorities check absenteeism and other acts of indiscipline among students.

He advised parents against spending lavishly on frivolous things and rather channel their resources towards equipping their children’s academic, technical and vocational training.

Mr Tsibu appealed to the Gomoa District Assembly for assistance to provide additional classrooms to enable the school cater for the increasing number of students who apply for admission following its excellent performance over the years.

Mr. John Ackom-Aspect, PTA Secretary, assured the teachers of renewed commitment, support and cooperation from the PTA to address issues affecting effective and efficient teaching and learning. Mr Ackom-Aspect commended the staff for their sterling performance that placed the school third on the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) league table in the Central region this year.
