The Ministry of Education has warned Heads of Senior High Schools charging fees for two terms instead of one to immediately desist from the act or face severe sanctions.
A statement signed by the Education Minister, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Friday said the act is an abuse of the terms agreed between the Ministry and the authorities of the various senior high schools in the country.
“It has come to attention of the ministry that some Heads of Senior High Schools are charging fees for two terms and insisting that parents pay same before their wards are admitted.
“This practice remains in flagrant violation of government policy and directives we have earlier circulated in this regard,” the statement noted.
It added: “The Ministry takes a serious view to this development and assures the general public that steps are being taken to sanction heads who are found to have flouted this directive”.
The statement also urged parents to ignore any request by any senior high school authority to pay double fees before their wards are admitted.
