Education Ministry to provide facilities to all senior high schools

Accra, June 9, GNA – Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, Minister of Education said on Thursday that plans were far advanced to improve facilities in all senior high and technical schools.

This, she said would make second cycle education more accessible and attractive.

Mrs Iddrisu said this when she appeared before the House noted that every year provision was made in the Ministry’s budget including that of the Ghana Education Trust Fund to cater for senior high schools and technical institutes.

She noted that in allocating resources to the schools emphasis was placed on deprived institutions such as community schools with major infrastructure deficits.

Mrs Iddrisu said despite the resource constraints, the 2011 budget made provision for basic infrastructure for senior high schools.

She said contracts have been awarded for the construction of six-unit classroom blocks for 214 schools.

The Minister said additionally, 149 senior high schools would benefit from quick- build structures while arrangements have been made to contract the Ghana Armed Forces to provide six-unit classroom blocks in 21 senior high schools.

She said awarded projects at the first phase would be provided with appropriate furniture.
