Koforidua, Oct. 09, GNA – Mr Kobina Arthur-Forson, the Regional Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has said the company has embarked on an electricity booster project to ensure a constant power supply in the Eastern Region.
He said a Norwegian company had been contracted for the job and had started installing the power lines from Akyem Tafo in the East Akyem District to join the pylons in Koforidua.
He said the project which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, would improve electricity supply in the New Juaben Municipality.
Mr Arthur-Forson said as part of the project, the ECG was also upgrading the power lines at Akyem Anyinam and Kwabeng adding that a substation has been built at Akyem Oda and Nkawkaw.
He said the company was changing the lines from 11,000 volts to 33,000 volts to ensure more power supply and to boost water supply which was currently low because the voltage could not support the pumping machines.
Mr Arthur-Forson expressed the hope that with the changing of the conductors in the region from copper to aluminium the frequent theft of conductors that resulted in power outages would cease.
He appealed to the citizens to bear with the company as there would be periodic power fluctuations as the project progresses.
