ECG on mass disconnection of defective street lights

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has embarked on a nationwide disconnection of defective street lights to conserve energy.

Twelve communities in Jomoro District in the Western Region have so far been affected by the exercise which began in May.

The District ECG Manager, Alhaji Adamu Y. Usumanu, made this known in an interview with GNA at Half-Assini following concerns expressed by the people over the exercise, which has raised tensions in the town.

Alhaji Usumanu said a total of 37 street Lights has so far been disconnected in the District.

These are Half-Assini, four street lights, Ahobre-four, Takinta- five, New Kabenlah Suazo-three, Bonyere Junction -two and Bonyere –two . The rest are Nawulley -two, Ndum Suazo -one, Tikobo Number One -four, Kengen -eight, Ellonyi -one and Beyin -one.

According to the District Manager, ECG has authorised all its offices across the country to disconnect pole mounted street lights.

He urged affected communities or district assemblies concerned to provide ECG “Photocell” (automatic Power-off/on device) to restore their street lights.

The ECG District Manager said the exercise is on-going and appealed to the public to cooperate with the company in the exercise in the national interest.
