EC working with NPP to conduct executive elections

The Electoral Commission of Ghana is working with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as part of preparations towards next month’s executive elections, a party official has disclosed.

The EC is expected to supervise the elections to be held on April 12 in Tamale, he said.

Speaking to TV3 on Monday, March 17, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the Director of Elections of NPP, said currently the party is engaged in composing its register for the elections, which will climax the National Delegates’ Conference.

“Transportation of delegates, their feeding [and] lodging [are] all being worked at,” Mr. Korsah said.

“We are in fruitful talks with the police administration to ensure that there is adequate security before, during and after the Conference, and that has also gone well,” he observed.

The party began preparations towards the elections from the polling station level in November, 2013 and the various elections – described within the party as reorganization for 2016 – are expected to climax by December, 2014, when the 2016 flagbearer of the party is elected.
